Dental Veneers Albany, OR
Veneers in Albany provided by Dr. Jeffrey Carl & Dr. Austin Brunson at Jeffrey Carl DMD
Dental veneers are thin caps placed on the surface of the teeth for aesthetic purposes. They are custom-made to match your natural tooth color and are bonded permanently to the tooth surfaces. Dental veneers are mostly used in cosmetic dentistry to enhance the dental appearance of chipped, stained, or broken teeth. They are typically placed on six to eight front teeth to create an even and symmetrical appearance; however, they may also be used to restore one tooth. Dental veneers are beneficial to patients who are unresponsive to other cosmetic treatments like whitening or braces and those who want long-term cosmetic effects. Types of Veneers
Veneers typically come in two forms: porcelain and composite resin veneers. These require extensive preparation; however, some veneers do not require preparation and are applied differently.
Porcelain veneers are sturdy, thin shells placed on the front surfaces of the teeth. Porcelain veneers match the tooth color but can be made a few shades lighter to whiten your teeth. When placing porcelain veneers, our dentist will shave down part of your enamel and take an impression using a mold to make a custom fit in the lab. Before they are made, our dentist may recommend temporary veneers, which are removed once your permanent replacements are made. Dentists may use digital equipment like CAD/CAM equipment to design your veneers; they are cemented in place permanently on your teeth. They are also the most expensive type of veneer.
Resin-based veneers mimic porcelain veneers; however, they are cheaper and require minimal to no tooth preparation. Little or no enamel may need to be removed, and our dentist etches the tooth surface and applies the resin-based composite substance on your tooth surface. Our dentist may add layers of the material until desired results are achieved, and the resin will be hardened or cured with a laser or UV dental light.
No prep veneer options apply to certain types of porcelain veneers like Lumineers and are minimally invasive veneers as they require only a small amount of enamel removal, unlike other types where dentists grind below the enamel. They also do not require sedation to place temporary veneers.
Facts About Veneers
All veneers are prone to staining and damage if proper care is not given to them, and they can last for over a decade. However, composite resin veneers are easy to fix in case of chipping or damage compared to porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers can correct more tooth damage; for example, cover more discoloration or malformation in teeth.
Patients do not need to worry about their options as our dentist will typically help choose the best veneer option for you. Once the veneers have been installed, you can resume your daily activities as with these restorations, you do not need an extended recovery time. While the sedation wears off, you should be careful. You might feel a little uncomfortable after your veneers are placed. They might feel rough, but after some chewing and teeth cleaning, this should go away. Any roughness is likely from the dental cement, and our dentist can smooth it out if it does not wear off after some time.
